Peter Coleman-Wright AO named as Artistic Director for new professional opera company, National Opera
Canberra Opera, a not-for-profit charity and arts organisation has been in existence since 2011, received a bequest earlier this year. The John Drabble Fund has specific conditions for its use, that is to support the development of and provide opportunities for young artists, defined as under 35 years of age. Enter stage left…. Peter Coleman-Wright AO.

Mr Coleman-Wright AO was keen to provide leadership, mentoring and stewardship to an opera company and young and emerging artists as well as share his vast experience throughout his international operatic career.

In honour of Mr Coleman-Wright’s involvement, the Committee agreed to re-brand and professionalise the organisation, under his artistic leadership. The new organisation, National Opera is being headed up by General Manager Stephanie McAlister who, together with the National Opera Committee will support Artistic Director Peter Coleman-Wright AO to realise the vision for the company:

“National Opera will provide opportunities for artists to develop and perform their craft in a supportive environment of professionalism, collaboration and connection”.

A biography for Mr Coleman-Wright is available here.

A formal launch event will be held in early 2020, together with an announcement of it’s inaugural late 2020 production.
